Competitive swimming
The objective of competitive swimming is to be the
fastest swimmer a given distance. Competitive swimming began in the 19th
century, and at present there are 34 events - 17 male swimming events and 17
female swimming events. Swimming at the Summer Olympic Games, is a dream of
most competitors in swimming events. Male and female swimmers compete
in 13 recognized events each. Olympic swimming events are held in a 50 meter
pool. Competitive swimming's international governing body is the
