Steve teaches in public pools and can also offer private swimming lessons. He was also trained as a Total Immersion Coach. ... Regaining the standing positionIt is essential that non-swimmers being introduced to the water, are taught how to regain the standing position very early in their swimming development. This will help to develop confidence and is also an important safety skill. Initially this should be introduced using buoyancy aids or floats. The potential to compete is developed gradually and learning the stroke should be fun. Babies often produce a dolphin type leg action without prompting. This horizontal float can be a continuation of a prone push and glide. It can also be achieved from standing by lowering the shoulders and gently leaning forwards to lie face down in the water. A star float or X position is an easy variation. A count of ten is enough time to sustain the face down position.
