Please note that this website is Gay's at Swim With Us. Irene and Steve each have their own websites and we work as individuals. I will be quite happy to help you find the right place for your lessons. Irene has a lovely private pool for your individual use. Steve teaches in public pools and can also offer private swimming lessons. He was also trained as a Total Immersion Coach. ... Movement in the WaterChildren should be encouraged to move freely at the earliest opportunity. Some may require the support of artificial aids or the assistance of a helper in the water. The availability of this type of support should be removed as soon as safety and confidence permit. Practices • walk holding the rail/side • walk alongside the rail/side without touching Teaching Points • slide feet along the bottom • move slowly • aim for shoulders below the surface Developments • walk anywhere around the pool • walk changing speed • walk changing direction including sideways and backwards • walk in geometrical shapes/patterns • jumping, hopping, skipping As the pupils gain in confidence they should be allowed to experiment with a variety of movement patterns and games. Teaching Point • put as little pressure as possible on the floats. Practice • with one float held with both hands, practise chosen leg actions Teaching Points • continuous movement of the legs • tip head slightly back if needed Practice • in water where the swimmers are out of their depth, hold the rail (side) at arms length, hold a float in the other hand, and practise chosen leg actions Teaching Point • gentle, unhurried leg action Practice • at the side, hold the rail as before but scull with the other arm. Practise chosen leg action Teaching Point • scull well below the surface Before going on to treading water entirely independently, it is useful to practise floating skills. This underlines the fact that little effort and energy need be used in order to stay afloat when treading water. Swimming Lessons East MidlandsFloatingVertical Float
As the name indicates, the body is upright. This float is for those who are confident and safe in deep water and who find horizontal floating difficult. The arms are outstretched sideways and the head tilted slightly back. In undisturbed water it is possible to experiment with the effects of breathing out and breathing in, in relation to how low or high the pupils float in the water. Key Points • vertical body position • head back slightly • arms outstretched sideways Swimming Lessons East MidlandsAlford Ashbourne Bolsover Bourne Brackley Buxton Caistor Clay Cross Derbyshire Dales Gainsborough Gainsborough Glossop Grantham Heanor High Peak Killamarsh Kirkby in Ashfield Leicestershire Louth Lutterworth Market Deeping Market Harborough Market Rasen Matlock Melton Mowbray Newark Newark Nottinghamshire Oakham Oakham Shepshed Shirebrook Sleaford Southwell Spalding Stamford Towcester Tuxford Uppingham Walton on the Naze Wigston Wirksworth Wirksworth
