Swimming Lessons KentFront CrawlFront Crawl is the fastest of the four competitive strokes. The body position is almost flat and the constant propulsion from the alternating arm and leg actions make it a very efficient stroke. Body Position Key Points • flat with a slight slope down to the hips. The head is neither buried nor lifted. The waterline is between the eyebrows and natural hairline • eyes look forwards and downwards • the slight slope down to the hips keeps the kick in the water • shoulders roll into the stroke to utilise the strong chest muscles and to generate a strong propulsive force • slight head adjustments change the position of the legs. If the head is lifted the legs will drop and vice-versa, like a see-saw • the legs work almost within body depth. As the name indicates, the body is upright. This float is for those who are confident and safe in deep water and who find horizontal floating difficult. The arms are outstretched sideways and the head tilted slightly back. In undisturbed water it is possible to experiment with the effects of breathing out and breathing in, in relation to how low or high the pupils float in the water.
